CNIA extends an invitation to all individuals interested in nursing informatics to attend a national working meeting on Saturday June 23rd, 2012 at the McGill University Health Centre, in Montreal, Quebec in advance of the NI 2012 Congress on Nursing Informatics. Join us for a full day with Canadian nurse leaders to discuss and address the challenges in nursing informatics today. Register below.<br />

This focused time together is intended to provide an opportunity for interaction with colleagues from across the country, to exchange ideas and experiences, and to brainstorm on issues and strategies for the continued advancement of informatics within Canada’s nursing community.<br />

The NI2012 submission deadline has been extended to Sept. 12, 2011, at 11:59 pm EDT (03:59:00 UTC/GMT), due to recognition of a national holiday in Canada.<br />

 <title>National Institute in Nursing Informatics</title>

<description><![CDATA[<H2>National Institute in Nursing Informatics</H2><br />
<H3>February 3, 4 & 5, 2012</H3><br />
<br />
The inaugural National Institute in Nursing Informatics will be led by Dr. Lynn Nagle from the Lawrence S. Bloomberg, Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto and supported by a number of guest faculty from across Canada. This 3 day institute will provide a focused educational opportunity for nurses interested in learning more about informatics. The program will be of particular interest to nurse educators responsible for the integration of informatics into entry level nursing programs, nursing practice leaders, or nurses currently working in or considering a future career in informatics. Participants will be equipped with sufficient foundational knowledge to be able to effectively participate in informatics related operational and educational discussions and activities in their work settings.<br />
<br />
Participants will benefit from the extensive practical, academic, and research knowledge and experience of the faculty who will teach in the institute. The curriculum will cover a broad range of topics with content being covered through a combination of didactic presentations, small and large group discussions, and independent study.<br />
<br />
Topics to be covered will include:<br />

   <UL><LI> History and evolution of informatics in nursing</LI><br />
<LI>Structure and function of clinical information systems</LI><br />
<LI> Nursing data standards</LI><br />
<LI> Human factors considerations</LI><br />

<LI>Evaluating information and communication technologies</LI><br />
<LI> Informatics in nursing education</LI><br />
<LI> Consumer informatics</LI><br />

Throughout the 3 day institute, participants will have the opportunity to interact and network with other attendees. Attendees will receive a certificate of completion.<br />

We offer two venues for discussion. <br />

The first pair of forums are focused on Standards in Nursing Data (moderated by Margie Kennedy and Tracy Shaben) and a more general Community Cafe forum (moderated by Robin Carriere and June Kaminski) are housed within our Members Community and are open to our CNIA members. <br />

<br />
The second pair of forums are open to anyone interested in discussing Nursing Informatics. <br />
<br />
There is also a Standards in Nursing Data forum (moderated by Margie Kennedy and Tracy Shaben) in this venue as well as a French forum (moderated by Robin Carriere  and Francois-Regis Frechette) for French-speaking discussion.  You will need to register to engage in these forums, but you do not need to be a CNIA member to participate. <br />
