The SNIA was initiated by a group of Saskatchewan Nurses with a common interest in Nursing Informatics. It is a non profit organization that was recognized as a membership unit in 2001 by the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association.

The SNIA vision is to work together to promote informatics within nursing in Saskatchewan.

Mission
The SNIA mission is to act in an advisory capacity regarding Nursing Informatics in Saskatchewan, in order to advance the understanding and appropriate utilization of informatics within Nursing.
Goals
- To provide leadership in the development of Nursing/Health Informatics.
- To establish networking opportunities.
- To act as a nursing advisory group in Nursing/Health Informatics.
- To expand the awareness of Nursing/Health Informatics in the healthcare community.
- To identify research opportunities in informatics.
- To promote the use of information technology for continuing nursing education.
Objectives
- To identify current expertise in Nursing Informatics.
- To increase awareness of Nursing Informatics and its application within health care.
- To increase nurses' knowledge and skills in informatics.
- To seek recognition for informatics nursing as an emerging nursing specialty.
- To increase members' awareness of trends and informatics education programs through communication with other informatics nursing groups.
- To provide mutual support to colleagues.
- To provide mentoring/preceptorship opportunities for students and colleagues.
