The Ontario Nursing Informatics Group is an affiliate member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario and as such promotes the awareness and value of nursing’s contribution to health data, information and knowledge through information management and the use of technology.
Mission
ONIG was formed in 1980 and achieved RNAO status as an affiliated member in 1991. ONIG’s purpose is to provide a forum for nursing professionals to communicate and disseminate current developments in health care information systems.
ONIG’s mission is to build a supportive community of nursing informaticians within Ontario through initiatives that support education, research and practice.
Goals
The goals of the ONIG are:
- Recognition of nursing informatics within healthcare systems
- The role of nursing in clinical transformation and the human factor
- Understanding the value of clinicians in informatics
- Having an effect on patient outcomes/processes
