In the fall of 2005, the Canadian Nursing Informatics Association presented the first Canadian conference focused on nurses and informatics. As the single largest group of health professionals, nurses are central to the delivery of healthcare services in this country. About the Conference PLENARY SPEAKERS WORKSHOP CONCURRENT SESSIONS POSTERS INNOVATIONS IN NURSING PRACTICE RESEARCH INITIATIVES APPLICATIONS IN EDUCATION Canadian healthcare is undergoing a dramatic transformation in relation to the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). Nurses in practice have a vested interest in assuring that the solutions being deployed are appropriate to support safe and efficient, high quality care. Nurse administrators need to be informed and engaged decision-makers regarding these solutions. Nurse researchers have the opportunity to develop new programs of research in the context of informatics. Informatics savvy educators are key to effectively preparing nurses of the future to work in ICT environments. In other words, informatics is relevant to every nurse! The CNIA has assumed a leadership role in expanding the informatics knowledge of all Canadian nurses. Many joined us for this very important and timely inaugural event and heard about how other nurses are working in informatics. This conference was for nurses in all roles and areas of practice. The program included core content of interest to all in the areas of practice, education, and research. Conference Highlights:
